I still remember this encounter to this day. I was wearing a sweater, and my friend said that it was a cute jumper. I had to ask her again, and she said the same thing. I then noticed that they refer to sweaters as jumpers. I told her about this, which she viewed as odd. We then went back and forth on the right way to refer to it. This was one of the many cultural shocks I experienced while I was there. Another one was referring to chips as crisps. These were mainly minor cultural shocks. Something else is how they take national holidays and the weekend very seriously. These are times meant to rest and be with family, which they do. Lots of places are closed, and transportation won’t be reliable after a certain time. Also, they don’t have bathroom “stalls”. Instead, they have smaller rooms within the bathroom that each contains a toilet.
